MANZ frequently asked questions
There will always be questions, please feel free to email any questions you have that are specific to your planned trip. The following is a range of frequently asked questions and the relevant answers. We hope this information helps with your holiday planning.
How do I pick up the bike?
At Motorcycle Adventures New Zealand we are flexible, within reason you can pick up a prearranged bike at any time 7 days a week by prior arrangement. We can also provide airport pick up and drop off in Auckland if required.
Can I use my own GPS?
Yes you can, providing you can securely mount the unit on the bike without impairing the serviceability or causing any damage to the bike. All our bikes come with fitted with a handy USB charging adaptor, and we can supply a suitable GPS unit if needed.
Can I ride a rental motorcycle on the beach?
Unfortunately we can’t allow our bikes to be used on beaches, the salt and sand is too corrosive and causes too much damage to the bikes, also, for your information the insurance on the bike while in your possession covers for New Zealand state highways and byways. This includes dirt and loose stone roads but excludes, Ninety Mile Beach, The TSS Earnslaw at Queenstown, Skippers Road, Nevis Valley Road, and Mavora Lakes Road.
Can we store luggage at your shop?
Of course you can, we have secure storage for luggage and we can courier your gear to your final destination on one way hires if required. There is a charge for this.
What is the minimum age to rent a motorcycle?
For most rentals the minimum age is 25 years old, we can in provide 250cc motorcycles on 1 day hire for riders from the age of 18. For the purpose of obtaining a learners or restricted licence.
Can you arrange a mobile telephone?
We can arrange a pre-pay phone to have with you on your ride if required, it will come with emergency numbers and contact numbers for Motorcycle Adventures New Zealand. The phone will come with a small credit and it is up to you to keep it topped up if you need to make calls.
Do the bikes have luggage systems?
All our bike have GIVI Monokey racks, we can supply hard lockable luggage or you are welcome to use your own gear if it is compatible with our racks.
Do provide helmets and other gear?
It is usually best to bring your own gear but if this is not practical we can supply helmets, jackets and pants at an extra cost, the daily rates for these items are not expensive and can be included in the total hire if you let us know what you need.
Can we ride with a pillion passenger?
Providing you are competent with carrying a pillion passenger we have no problem with it at all, we just ask that you let us know your plans ahead of time to ensure we supply an appropriate bike.
We want to pick up in Auckland and finish in another city, is this okay?
We can arrange for you to drop your motorcycle off in a number of different cities in New Zealand but there will be a relocation fee of NZ$350 per bike charged for this. Relocation fees are not charged for hire periods over 14 days.
What licence do we need?
Providing you have a valid licence with a motorcycle endorsement from any country you can ride in New Zealand for a maximum of twelve months. The same restrictions would apply as the country of origin.
Do your rates decrease for hires over 20 days?
Yes they do, the longer the period of hire the better the rate gets, rate also change with the time of year, it is best to submit a contact request from the web site with your dates, time frames and an overview of your planned trip and we will reply with the rate we can make available to you.
How old are your motorcycles?
We like to rotate our bikes on a three yearly basis dependant on km’s travelled, pricing on older bikes in the fleet reflects the age and mileage of the bike.
What happens if my motorcycle breaks down?
This does not happen often but if it does you are covered by a NZ Roadside Assist program. In the event of a breakdown due to mechanical or electrical issues we will endeavour to get you back on the road within 36 hours, either with the motorcycle repaired or a replacement motorcycle. Punctures are at your cost.
Can you book ferry crossings between the North and South Islands?
This is no problem, we have a relationship with Interislander Ferries, we can arrange one way and return sailings and we provide the tie-downs required for the motorcycle. This can quickly and easily be arranged when you pick up your bike in Auckland.
Can you arrange our accommodation?
Yes we can, for self-guided tours we will arrange accommodation stops, payment for the accommodation is to be made directly to the provider on the day unless you are paying for the entire tour package up front.
How do I pay for the bike rental?
When paying for rentals and personalized tours a deposit of 10% of the total hire price is required to confirm the booking, the deposit is non-refundable and will be deducted from the total hire price, credit card details will be necessary for the deposit, once MANZ has received the 10% deposit a confirmation of your booking will be e-mailed to you. The balance is due 30 days before departure date, either by credit card or internet banking.
